PIPER PERISH had already been in the world for a week and I was feeling a lot of the love of being published for the first time. Some people think that it changes your life when your first book is published and it does, but not always in huge, grandiose ways. My life has improved because I have had the chance to travel, to meet and become friends with students and readers, teachers and librarians, artists and publishers. It’s taught me to not judge other books so harshly. It’s taught me the value of an amazing team and to cherish the people in your life who champion you - not because you’re some talented goddess (I’m not), but because you keep trying to get better at what you do.
