Wrote my Round 2, Day 11 #1000wordsofsummer for #Book3 early because we’re headed out of town shortly. I’ll be writing there but I knew I wouldn’t write later tonight. Today I #amwriting and #amdrawing my #packinglist. Packing might be my least favorite thing to do besides unpacking but it’s a privilege and luxury just to have enough to pack in the first place, right? So I’m gonna stop complaining right here and just say that if you’re looking for a packing hack to make your summer travel more fun, draw your list instead of writing it. #packinghacks #packing #travel #journals #notebook

This was my very 1st apartment in NYC. The bathroom was down the hall, across from the laundry room. There was a pay phone outside my room, where I could hear other tenants making homesick calls, setting up dates, and trying to find other apartments and/or jobs. The sink was next to the desk and a tiny closet was next to the twin bed. There was no air conditioning. There was no fridge. Males were not allowed to come upstairs, even if they were my best friends or my visiting grandfather. There was loneliness and fear and exhaustion in that room. Some bad poetry happened and some great reading, too. I shot so many photos on film then. I was broke all the time. But there was also so much love and excitement and possibility. Every damn day. It was my first alone home and I loved it. 🗽#ArtBoss #websterapartments #tbt #throwbackthursday #newyorkcity #nyc #manhattan #summer #writersofinstagram #writersoninstagram #yalit

It’s #ArtBoss’s first trade review and it’s a lovely one. Thanks, @kirkus_reviews! 💙💙💙 KIRKUS REVIEW A young artist moves to the big city. In the follow-up to Piper Perish (2017), Cagan’s plucky first-person narrator has escaped the confines of her distressing home life in Houston to follow her dreams of attending art school and supporting herself as an artist. Moving to New York City with the money she saved waiting tables, talented 18-year-old Piper now finds herself in the rare position of being hired by a celebrated artist to serve as his assistant as she awaits news on the financial aid package she desperately needs to attend art school. Piper is ready to remake herself and start a new life, even as she gets a reality check from native New Yorker Silas, a would-be beau and seeming “real live Edward Gorey character,” who warns her that New York is “a city with no respect for the past. Nostalgia just gets swept up with the trash here.” Trash eventually becomes an important artistic element for Piper as she tries to establish her own autonomy and negotiate budding romantic and artistic relationships in the shadow of the domineering artist who’s hired her to execute his vision. This enjoyable read contains many New York City details that ring true and offers a glimpse into the contemporary world of young struggling artists. Piper and Silas are white. A fast-paced bildungsroman offering an engaging portrait of the artist as a young woman. (Fiction. 14-18) 💙💙💙 #chroniclebooks #YALit #BookReview #BookReviews #ArtBoss #NYC #NewYorkCity #artstudents #artstagram #yabooks #yareads #artkids #kirkusreviews #piperperish

I didn’t write yesterday so I doubled-down on #1000wordsofsummer Round 2 today. So today is technically Day 8, but I used it as days 7 & 8. Had to remind myself that there’s no shame in the game, just get back to it when there’s a day off. 🧡✏️ #book3 #amwriting #motivationmonday #motivationmonday #monday
