It’s Day 8 of #1000WordsOfSummer. 8 is my lucky number and I #amwriting in one of my favorite libraries, so today is feeling particularly auspicious. The world continues to be a 💩show, and in honor of @jamiattenberg’s email today, I’m making shit happen. My #wordcount today is 1,384. I’m feeling a bit nervous about the scheduling of my writing for the next few days because we have a fair amount going on, including protesting, but I’m determined to fit it in because, as today’s email also reminded me, from the great and greatly missed Roger Ebert, “The muse visits during the act of creation, not before.” So here’s to our muses and to our acts of creation. This is my place of summer zen and I offer it to you. ☀️ 🏊♀️ My writing came easily to me only after documenting the world’s atrocities in my journal today. I’m struggling with the pain of it all. I’m not making it into content, just being honest. My writing is giving me not safety, but escapism and rebooting for a few minutes, almost like meditation, so I can carry on and figure out how to keep helping others while taking care of my own brain, heart and spirit right now. #1000wordsofsummer came at just the right time for me. #1000wordsofsummer Day 5. 1,049 words. These are the words that got me through writing my first novel in 2013 that I actually sold in 2015. I didn’t have the luxury of just 30 minutes a day with my second one due to deadlines. I’m back into the place of feeling like writing is a luxury, because I’m only accountable to myself right now. I have a lot of promotion for Book 2 stuff coming up, but for now, I’m just writing and it’s heaven. Btw, this piece was created for me by my friend @iwriteplays, and hangs near my desk so I see it at least once a day. Banjo didn’t really care but that’s okay and I feel good now.
